Attempt to lure Fowler Elementary kids reported

KILLEEN, TX - The search is on for a man accused of trying to lure three Fowler Elementary Students into his car.

The incident happened just a few blocks from the school campus in Killeen on Friday morning.

Killeen Independent School District officials are asking parents to be on high alert. They notified parents about the incident just before school let out.
Some parents were so concerned, they came to pick their children up early.

Officials say ithappened on Auburn Drive, near Griffith Loop, after 7:00 a.m.

"It was frightening. Very frightening," says parent Venus Taylor.

Taylor has four kids enrolled at Fowler, and rushed to the school when she got the message.

"I mean, this doesn't seem like the type of neighborhood that would have those types of things," Taylor says.

The students describe the predator as a 6'1" man dressed in all black, who was also wearing half a mask and carrying a set of keys.

"We wanted the parents to get out on the street with us today and help us to keep a eye close eye on the kids all the way home. We've had extra police patrols around this afternoon," says Terry Abbott, of Killeen ISD.

Abbott says he is just happy the children were not harmed.

"Remind the children if anyone that they don't know comes up to them and tries to talk to them, tries to get them, they need to tell an adult right away. Run away. Get away from that person and tell and adult," Abbott says.

Some extra Killeen ISD officers will also be in the area on Monday morning. If you have any information on the suspect, you are encouraged to report it to police.

The Killeen Independent School District has alerted parents of kids attending Fowler Elementary School about a report of a man wearing a half ski mask trying to lure students to his car.

Fowler Elementary Principal Joyce Lauer sent a recorded message to parents ahead of the 3:00 p.m. dismissal time after three students said a man tried to convince them to go to his car as they walked to school.

The children involved refused and made it to school okay.

Killeen Police have been investigating the report, and KISD Police officers increased patrols in the area.

The students said the man was about 6'1", was holding car keys and was wearing a half ski mask covering the bottom portion of his face.

The students said they were walking along a sidewalk on Auburn Drive, near Griffith Loop, between 7:15 and 7:35 a.m. when the man approached them.

“Police and security officials are working closely with us at Fowler Elementary School to make sure students stay safe,” Principal Lauer said in the phone call.

“We encourage parents this afternoon and every school day to help us to keep watch over our students as they travel to and from school. Please help us to remind students to never get into a car with or go somewhere with a stranger, and to always report any safety concern.”
