WACO, Texas - One topic of discussion at Thursday's Waco City Hall meeting was the approval of over $416,000 in Tax Increment Financing funds for the construction of the Doris Miller Memorial.
The funds would go directly toward new sidewalks, lighting, a reflection pool, landscape and irrigation - as well as architectural and engineering fees.
"We've been working on this project since 2009, so it is so amazing to hear and see all the public's support and just know that the city is behind us in this project so that we can achieve this memorial of national standing and international standing," says Doreen Ravenscroft, of Waco Cultural Arts Fest.
The memorial will be a two-acre site on the banks of the Brazos River. It will be a place for remembrance, reflection and learning.
