Emergency landing near Temple airport

TEMPLE, TX - Temple Fire and Rescue reports a small single-engine plane has made an emergency landing near the Temple airport Thursday morning, but the pilot and a passenger escaped serious injury.

Spokesman Thomas Pechal says the plane made the emergency landing in a field off the 14000 block of State Highway 317 about a mile north of the airport.

Initial reports indicated the pilot experienced engine trouble just before 11:00 a.m. and successfully put the plane down.

Early reports were that the plane had come to rest upright and there had been no fuel leakage and no fire.

The airplane was a Lancair Legacy, and according to FAA registry information was listed as an experimental aircraft, with the registered owner being a corporation with an Austin address.
