Fake $50's showing up in Central Texas

WACO,TX - Agents in the Waco office of the U.S. Secret Service say they have seen what's termed a significant increase in the number of counterfeit fifty dollar bills being passed in the area.

Most of the bogus bills were turning up in Bell and McLennan counties.

They report that while there has been a slight increase in the overall number of counterfeit bills being passed, the number of fake fifties has almost tripled.

Resident Agent in Charge Scott DeFord notes that even with local law enforcement making some arrests, the trend continues to show an increase.

The Secret Service says the public and businesses should know about the trend and be very cautious when receiving a $50 bill.

Secret Service continues to work with local law enforcement to deal with this problem and asks that if someone ends up receiving one of these bills to contact local law enforcement or the Secret Service at 254-741-0576.
