Florida murder suspect arrested in McGregor

MCGREGOR, TX - McLennan County Sheriff's deputies and McGregor Police have arrested a man wanted in Florida for shooting the mother of his children in Haines City.

Maclovio Salas-Martinez was awaiting booking into the McLennan County Jail early Monday morning.

Fox-44 sister station WFLA in Tampa reported that that 37-year-old Ricio Mozqueda was found outside a home in Haines early Saturday morning after officers responded to a shots fired call.

Haines City Police Chief James Elensky said children ages 6,14, and 17 were present when their mother was shot.

Police said he was believed to be  driving a black Toyota Camry after the shooting.

McGregor Police say the suspect has many relatives in the McGregor area and even has had interaction with police there, including arrests for theft and for various traffic violations as recently as 2011.

Officers were aware that he might show up in the area.

They received a call about a suspicious vehicle about 2:00 a.m. and when they arrived at the location in the 1000 block of Madison they realized the car matched the description of the black Camry the suspect might be driving.

Realizing that the man could be considered dangerous, they contacted the McLennan County Sheriff's Office and made arrangements for the SWAT team to assist in the arrest.

They noted that the lights were on in the house where the car was parked and set up in the area.

Prior to making entry, the checked the car and found him sleeping inside, easily taking him into custody about 6:30 a.m. without incident.

It was noted that while the lights were on in the house where the car was found, nobody was inside.

He was taken to the McLennan County Jail for processing with the booking process being completed at 11:31 a.m.

Police reported that detectives from Florida were already flying to Texas to prepare to take Salas back.
