Murder suspect faces new charges

GATESVILLE, TX - A  man who was free on bond in a Harker Heights murder case is now back in jail on a new charge of sexual assault of a child.

Matthew Scott Stoddard was booked into the Coryell County Jail on the new charges with a $35000 bond assessed.

Jail records also indicate he is held additionally on a bond forfeiture in the Bell County murder case.

Stoddard had been free on bond in the other case that developed as investigators looked more closely into a death that had originally been carried as a suicide.

In that case, 18-year-old Angelica Nicole Santiago had been found dead in an apartment on Hopi Trail in Harker Heights.

There were early reports that she died of a self inflicted gunshot wound, but investigators later developed evidence that they said indicated otherwise.

Stoddard was later indicted by a Bell County grand jury.

No details on the new charges were available Friday.
