Search on for weapon used in double murder

WACO, TX - The McLennan County Sheriff's Office put divers to work Tuesday morning searching in the Brazos River for the weapon used in the shooting of a mother and her baby at Tradinghouse Lake.

Divers were at work on the south side of the Brazos River Bridge on South Loop 340.

They were looking for a .22 caliber handgun used in the shooting deaths of 24-year-old Valarie Martinez and her one-year-old daughter Azariah.

Last week, 26-year-old Christopher Weiss was arrested in downtown Temple in the case.

McLennan County Sheriff Parnell McNamara said he was the father of the child.

He is being held in the McLennan County Jail on two counts of Capital Murder.

A weapon had been found in the truck at the time of the arrest, but Sheriff McNamara said at the time they did not know if it was the one used in the murders.
