Space X gets GPS launch contract

MCGREGOR, TX - The Department of Defense has announced that Space X with a facility in McGregor has been awarded a $290.6 million dollar contract for launch services to deliver the GPS III to its intended orbit, with part of the work to be done at the McGregor facility.

The contract provides for launch vehicle production, mission integration, launch operations and spaceflight readiness along with mission activities described as unique for a GPS III mission.

There are also options for additional launch services included in the contract.

The work is expected to be complete by March 2020.

The contract was recieved as a result of competitive bidding with two other offers received.

In addition to work done at McGregor, work will be performed in Hawthorne, California and the Cape Canaveral Air Force Space Station in Florida.

The GPS III system will provide stronger signals less susceptible to jamming and will be more compatible with other systems,  offering better service particularly to civilian users.
