WACO, TX - Jury selection was completed Monday for the trial of a man accused of breaking a jailer's leg during a tussle in the McLennan County Jail.
Court records indicate that on April 21, 2016 Kris Wayne Mackley was using the inmate phone in the booking area when he became agitated and, as the arrest affidavit describes it, aggressively hung it up.
As he walked back toward a holding cell, the jailer was walking behind him when Mackley turned and a struggle developed with the jailer.
A second jailer was required to subdue Mackley.
During the struggle a " pop" was heard as one of the jailers was injured.
After Mackley was restrained, the jailer was determined to have a broken leg that required surgery and the insertion of a pin.
Mackley was then charged with aggravated assault of a public servant.
The Family Abuse Center says more "resident advocates" are needed.
