When officers arrived, they learned a blue Ford Escape was traveling northbound on Nimitz Street and approaching University Drive. A white Mazda sedan was traveling eastbound on University Drive in the inside lane.
The Escape attempted to turn westbound from Nimitz Street onto University Drive. As it did, the Mazda struck the driver’s side of the Escape. As a result of the collision, the Escape flipped onto the passenger side and was pushed into the front bumper of a white GMC SUV traveling westbound in the inside lane of University Drive.
Both the driver and passenger of the Escape were transported to the hospital for non-incapacitating injuries.
Due to the accident, eastbound and westbound lanes of University Drive were temporarily closed while emergency personnel and wrecker services removed the vehicles. The driver of the blue Escape was issued a citation for Fail to Yield Right of Way.
