HARKER HEIGHTS, Texas - One woman has turned herself in to police after an arrest warrant was issued for her for the offense of perjury.
The Harker Heights Police Department held a press briefing last January, where they released details of the arrest of Leah Dure on January 1, on public intoxication accusations.
Dure and her attorney made claims the officer used excessive force and injured her during the arrest.
However, these accusations were shown to be false during the press briefing. Additional body cam footage was released on January 12, also showing these accusations to be false.
An arrest warrant was issued for Dure on February 23 for the offense of perjury, which is a Class “A” misdemeanor. These charges were filed due to the alleged false statement made by Dure to the Harker Heights Police Department, where she claimed she was injured during the public intoxication arrest.
Dure turned herself in to the Garland, Texas Police Department on the arrest warrant Monday morning. She was released on $5,000 bond.
The case has now been forwarded to the Bell County Attorney’s Office.
