Aggie QB's Working to Pick Up Jimbo's System

College Station, TX - In his first season at Texas A&M Jimbo Fisher has inherited a quarterback battle as Kellen Mond and Nick Starkel will fight for that starting job in September.

Mond and Starkel got significant playing time last year, but are going through a bit of a learning curve with Fisher's new offense. Starkel said their is a lot more verbiage in Fisher's system than what he was used to under Sumlin.

"[It's] really terminology and we run a lot of the same things, concepts don't necessarily change," he said. "Concepts don't change, but getting everyone on the same page has probably been the hardest in terms of that."

Mond said there is a lot more variation in the formations of this offense under Fisher.

"There's a lot more variety," he said. "Being under center, and then in shot gun, then being in two tight-ends three tight-ends, just more of a variety of stuff, that includes the terminology, with everything."

Fisher feels like the quarterbacks are picking things up slowly-but-surely but said there is still a long way to go.

"I mean they're doing a solid job," he said. "There's a lot for them to learn with decisions and plays. There's a lot more for them to do. I'm not disappointed in them but there's a lot more that they can do."

Texas A&M's Maroon and White game will be held April 14th at Kyle Field at 4:00pm.
