Waco, TX - The Lady Bears have one healthy senior as they enter their Sweet Sixteen match-up with Oregon State.
The under-classmen have taken on bigger roles to make up for the loss of big names like Kristy Wallace. One of those underclassmen has been sophomore post, Lauren Cox.
Kim Mulkey said she challenged Cox last year after their loss in the NCAA Tournament and she has responded in a big way.
"I don't know that the average fan can appreciate her value to our team and what she does," Mulkey said. "She can guard inside she can guard outside she can shoot the three, she can post you up she faces up. her help-side defense, i don't even have to teach her. She just has instincts for the game. Lauren cox is having an unbelievable year."
Another sophomore having a big year is Waco La Vega Alum, Juicy Landrum. The Sophomore has averaged 12.5 points in her two tournament games and has come a long way since this time last year.
" You know I expected it on the offensive end because I've always thought she had a beautiful shot, great range," Mulkey said. "But her problem as a freshman was just learning defensive principals, and learning passing lanes and learning help side and to watch her grow in that area and really become an all-around player."
