BELTON, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor baseball team jumped out to an early lead and then held off a Louisiana College rally as the Cru posted an 8-6 victory over the Wildcats in the series finale Saturday in Belton. UMHB improves to 5-9 overall and 3-3 in American Southwest Conference play with the victory. The loss drops LC to 11-3 overall and 3-3 in ASC play on the year.

Louisiana College took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning, but Mark Frankhouser blasted a solo home run in the bottom of that frame to tie it up. The Cru took a 3-1 lead on Mitch Patterson's two-run single in the bottom of the second. After LC closed to within 3-2, UMHB put five runs on the board in the bottom of the fifth. Dawson Shibley hit a two-run homer, his first collegiate home run, to open the scoring. Hunter McQuary singled home two more runs and Austin Blanford came around to score on an error to give the Cru an 8-2 lead. The Wildcats put one run on the board in the top of the eighth and scored three more in the ninth. Deauton Delgado doubled home the first two runs and Dustin Brown added an RBI single to close the gap to 8-6. Mason Schuh came on to get the final out to end the threat and earn his first save of the season for UMHB.

Jeb Zolman scattered four hits over seven innings and allowed just one earned run to improve to 2-1 on the season. He struck out three and did not walk a batter. Schuh's first save came when he coaxed a fly ball to right field against the only hitter he faced. Patterson had two of UMHB's eight hits in the victory. Carson Bolyer took the loss for LC to drop to 2-1 on the year. Steven Piazno had nine of the Wildcats' nine hits in the loss.

The Cru will return to action with a non-conference game at Trinity University in San Antonio on Tuesday at 4:00 PM. UMHB returns home to open a six-game home stand with a 6:00 PM game against Blackburn College on Wednesday.
