UMHB Softball Sweeps McMurry

ABILENE, Texas - The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor softball team completed a three-game sweep of McMurry University Saturday afternoon in Abilene, edging the War Hawks 4-3 in the final game of the series. UMHB improved its season record to 11-4 and American Southwest Conference mark to 6-3 while the War Hawks fell to 3-13 overall and 1-8 in league action.

UMHB took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning with back-to-back RBI singles from Whitney Flournoy and Kourtney Cummings. The War Hawks added one in the bottom of that inning to cut UMHB's lead to one. McMurry took its first lead of the series in the bottom of the third inning, scoring off back-to-back RBI singles from Kayla Otis and Summer Quiroga. UMHB evened the game up in the top of the fifth with a run from Whitney Flournoy and limited the War Hawks to just one hit in the bottom of that inning. Tomlinson scored the game-winning run in the top of the seventh, reaching off an RBI single from Dusti Douglas to secure UMHB's 4-3 victory. Flournoy and Kourtney Cummings led the Cru with two hits each while Douglas had a team-high two RBI. Flournoy also scored a team-high two runs with Tomlinson and Jessica Picou each added one. Hannah Halepaska earned the win in the circle for UMHB, throwing 4.1 innings with three hits and no runs allowed. CeCe Darilek was UMHB's starter, pitching 2.1 innings with six hits and three runs allowed. Cheyenne West and Kamwren Jackson teamed up in the circle for the War Hawks. West went five innings with three runs allowed while Jackson threw for two innings with one run allowed. UMHB totaled four runs on six hits with one error while the War Hawks had three runs on nine hits with on error.

UMHB returns to action on Monday, March 12th in a 3 p.m. contest at Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.
