Baylor football games lead to rise in Airbnb rentals

Airbnb helped offset surges in hotel occupancy during Baylor home football games this season.

Local hosts also received quite a bit of extra cash.

Hosts welcomed more than 5,000 guests and earned more than $470,000 through renting out their spaces. Just last weekend, 800 guests arrived and more than $77,000 were earned by hosts during the game against TCU.

The Kansas State and Oklahoma State games marked the high influx of Airbnb guests to McLennan County in the history of the company.

“We average normally about two nights a month, not booked. But during football season, it’s always booked. Like, there’s not a day that it’s not booked,” says host Jeff Jones.

Local hotels also had a steady increase in occupancy rates this season.
