Three people have been displaced after a structure fire in Temple.
Firefighters responded to a reported fire in an apartment garage between South 1st and South 3rd Streets near Avenue N, later to be confirmed as 1309 South 3rd Street, with multiple occupants still inside.
When firefighters arrived, they began searching the building for occupants and encountered heavy fire coming from an apartment on the top floor. All occupants were reported out of the apartment and the adjoining apartment, also on the top floor.
The fire was quickly controlled, and firefighters made entry to complete extinguishing it. No injuries were reported. Occupants reported four pit bulls in the apartment, but none were found on a secondary search of the apartment.
Three occupants were displaced from the apartments, and the American Red Cross has been contacted to assist with their immediate needs.
Temple Fire Department Investigators determined electric heating caused an unintentional fire. A total monetary loss has not been determined at this time.
Oncor Electric Delivery, Atmos Energy, Temple EMS and Temple Police all responded. Temple Fire and Rescue responded with 12 units and 28 personnel, to include investigators.
The call was dispatched at 8:43 a.m., and the first unit arrived at 8:46 a.m. The fire was reported under control at 9:00 a.m. All units cleared the scene at 12:15 p.m.
All units have cleared the scene.
