LEONA, TX - The Department of Public Safety has reported a 32-year-old Arlington man was killed in the crash of two 18-wheelers that also shut down I-45 in Leon County Thursday morning.
Troopers report the accident occurred about 5:20 a.m. in the soutbound main lanes near mile marker 160 five miles south of Centerville.
The southbound main lanes were completely closed with traffic diverted to the service roads.
DPS spokesman Jimmy Morgan says the accident occurred as the driver of a 2013 Volvo truck tractor pulling a trailer merged onto the southbound outside lane from a rest area.
The rig was hit from behind by a 2007 Freightliner that was also southbound, pushing it off the road and down an embankment.
The Freightliner caught fire and came to rest in the roadway.
The driver of the Volvo was unheart, but the driver of the Freightliner was dead at the scene.
A large quantity of fluid spilled onto the roadway which was expected to be closed until early afternoon.
The deceased driver of the Freightliner has been identified as 32-year-old Ivan Lara or Arlington.
