Arrest made in fatal Lorena crash

LORENA, TX - A 30-year-old Waxahachie man has been arrested in connection with a July 10th traffic crash that injured three people, one of who later died.

Joseph Edward Crowder had been identified as the driver of a Ford F-350 pickup who fled the scene of the accident as emergency vehicles arrived.

Lorena police say that the investigation indicated the F-350 had been going north in the inside lane of I-35 at a speed estimated by investigators at 80 miles per hour.

Police say the driver looked down reaching for cigarettes and did not notice that traffic had slowed in front of him.

The pickup struck the rear of a Nissan passenger car, pushing it into the rear of a Ford Fiesta.

The pickup then continued on striking the Fiesta, then crashing into the rear of an 18-wheeler.

The driver of the Fiesta, identified as James Bowser of Wisconsin died of his injuries July 21.

Crowder was not located at the time of the accident, but was identified through his employer who owned the truck involved in the crash.

Lorena Police Chief Tom Dickson says an arrest warrant for Crowder was obtained and he turned himself in on Monday.
