A 38-year-old College Station man has been accused of cutting another man in the face with a broken bottle during a bar fight.
College Station Police say Nicholas Jay Taylor was booked into the Brazos County Jail early Wednesday morning on a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon with the victim going to a local hospital with a series of cuts described as being dangerously close to an eye and his neck.
Officers were called to the Rough Draught Bar at 313 Church Avenue in the Northgate Business District just before midnight Tuesday night on a report of a fight in progress.
The caller told police a man had been cut badly.
When officers arrived, they found that bar staff had restrained Taylor with the victim being given medical assistance.
Police say as they conducted their investigation they were told that Taylor had grabbed a woman in the bar who was friends with the victim.
The victim went to her defense and tried to separate the two.
As the fight escalated, the two men fell over a table with a bottle on the table being broken.
Taylor was accused of grabbing the bottom of the bottle and swiping it across the face of the victim, causing several lacerations, one very deep and very close to the eye.
That’s when bar staff intervened and separated the men, keeping Taylor restrained.
The police report said that the manner in which the broken bottle was used it was likely to cause serious bodily injury, or even death, given the proximity of the cuts to the victim’s neck, leading to the charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bond was set at $30,000.
