Child exposed to drugs, man arrested

Copperas Cove Police say a 32-year-old man is facing charges of endangering a child after a 5-month-old boy in his care tested positive for ampetamine and methamphetamine.

Hubert Edward Dubose III remained in the Coryell County Jail after being arrested Monday morning.

The case goes back to December 5 when police made a traffic stop on a black 2013 Toyota Tundra in the 300 block of Casa Drive  for having an expired registration.

The driver was identified as Dubose.

He was accompanied in the vehicle by another adult male and the five month old boy.

The child had been left in Dubose’ care by his mother after her arrest for fraud.

After police fund Dubose in possession of drugs, he was arrested and the child was turned over to CPS.

On December 17, CPS contacted police to say that a drug screen test of the child’s hair tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

An arrest affidavit stated that the levels found ujn his hair led to suspicion that he had been exposed to ilegal substnces on a daily basis.

Police then filed charges against Dubose for engaging in conduct that had placed the five month old in imminent danger while in his care.

Bond had not been set as of Tuesday afternoon.
