Child porn brings federal prison term

Local

A 54-year-old Temple man has been sentenced to fifteen years in prison after entering a guilty plea to charges of possession of child pornography.

Jon Mark Johnson will also be under supervised release for an additional five years after he gets out of prison.

The discovery of a hidden pin-hole camera in a bathtub triggered the investigation that led to Johnson’s arrest and allegations that he had received materials going back twenty years.

As the investigation developed, he was arrested by U.S. Marshals.

The camera was discovered September 29, 2017 at which time police were called.

Police say they began the process of obtaining a state-issued search warrant, but before officers were aware of what the suspect was doing, a quantity of compact discs were destroyed and the hard drive of a computer was erased.

Officers were able to locate the cut up discs in a trash can and collected the  wiped computer.

The original arrest affidavit stated that Johnson was taken in for an interview and admitted he had a pornography addiction, that he possessed child porn and further gave a statement about the destruction of compact discs.

The federal court papers said that as investigators reviewed all of the material collected at the suspect’s house, it was discovered that  some of the discs included sexually explicit material involving children.

Court papers included a statement that another person had found recordings made by the suspect twenty years ago and when the suspect was confronted, the material was apparently moved to an unknown location.

Court papers included investigator’s statements saying that some  images had been mailed, shipped or transported by interstate and foreign commerce and via the internet
