COLLEGE STATION, TX - College Station police closed roads for a time early Wednesday morning in the area of Wellborn Road north and south between William D Fitch Parkway and Capstone after getting reports of shots being heard.
They had gotten the call about 4:30 a.m. and report that once on the scene, they determined the source of the shots and found what they termed " a suspect."
Police report that the patrol officers responding early were able to secure the area to "Insure the safety of citizens" and a negotiation team and SWAT team were deployed.
After a search of the area, one man was taken into custody with police saying he will be taken for a mental evaluation.
While early reports contained few details, police did say that this was " not an active shooter event."
College Station officers acknowledged the assistance of the Department of Public Safety and Texas A&M University Police.
