Three people, including a Fort Hood soldier, are facing various charges after an exotic goat was taken from a Coryell County petting zoo and later died.

Coryell County deputies were called to the Topsey Exotic Ranch on County Road 118 near Copperas Cove back on March 18 regarding the theft of a Nigerian Dwarf Goat.

They were told that a woman later identified as Joelle Sezen Rogers had picked up the young goat and hidden it in her red jacket while a man, later identified as Joel Crowl blocked the view of her heading toward their car.

Several witnesses told a woman working in the park’s gift shot what was happening and she left the shop seeing the two people jump into a black Dodge Dart which then, according to an arrest affidavit, backed up at a high rate of speed out of its parking space.

The car stopped before going forward again, with the park employee approaching car,  telling them to stop to try to retrieve the goat.

She told deputies the driver then accelerated at a high rate of speed toward her, putting her ” in fear for her life and her fourth month unborn child as she had to jump clear of the vehicle.”

She said the vehicle had been coming toward her and other oncoming vehicles and that she feared for the safety of the other people coming into the park.

Complaint papers filed with the court named the suspected driver as Osheana Shemorrow Mitchell.

Deputies later located all involved.

The arrest affidavit said Rogers stated that she took the Nigerian Dwarf Goat with the assistance of Crowl.

The affidavit said Mitchell stated she was driving the vehicle and said ” If I wanted to hit her I would have hit her.”

The Nigerian Dwarf Goat was recovered but court papers noted th goat died ” due to the stress and improper care.”

The three were charged with engaging in organized criminal activity and theft of exotic livestock.

In addition Mitchel was chared with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, vehicle.

Arrest warrants were obtained and all three were arrested and booked into the Coryell County Jail.
