Hillsboro Police claim victory after making an arrest in a nine month – long murder investigation.
Officers charged Edgar Barr – Lazcano with the shooting death of young mother – Deonshira Slider.
Police say Lazcano was dating a woman, who was having an ongoing, serious conflict with the victim.
Detective Jose Orozko with Hillsboro Police feels relieved there’s been a break in this murder investigation.
He says, “We owe this to this family, we owe this to the community and we owe this to ourselves that we work every moment, every day.”
41- year- old Lazcano now faces accusations he shot Slider in the parking lot of the Crestview Apartments in February.
Orozco says, “Since that day I don’t believe I have had a good night sleep.”
Slider leaves behind her four- year- old son, who investigators say was in the car when his mother was shot.
Casundra Washington, the victim’s mother says, “He witnessed everything that went on with this situation. You know, you have kids, you know, my baby is here without a mother now.”
The detective explains just how difficult it is to work with children as witnesses.
He says, “What do you remember of your momma? He started making some gargling sounds and that broke my heart. I just hope for the sake of God that he is gonna be okay, that he will find some kind of help.”
While the family will never see their loved again, there is light in the darkness.
Orozco says, “Have faith, talk to the man upstairs, talk to him, have some faith he’ll bring your strength because sometimes we don’t have right words or answers.”
Lazcano sits in the Hill County jail on a $1 million bond.
Orozco says this investigation is not over yet.
