Man charged in Temple fatal crash

TEMPLE, TX - A 60-year-old Temple man is being held on $700,000 bond in connection with a Friday night traffic crash that left a mother and son dead.

Temple police say it happened about 11:07 p.m. Friday at the intersection of South 1st and West Avenue O.

The victims were pedestrians that witnesses said were hit by a maroon pickup truck, which left the scene of the accident.

Killed were 55-year-old Maria Marta Garcia and her son, 33-year-old Pedro Danny Garza.

About twenty minutes after police responded to the accident,  the suspected driver of the truck turned himself in.

Officers believed the man to be intoxicated and conducted a sobriety screening.

The driver was identified as 60-year-old Darrell Gene Holloway, II.

The initial charge listed on the Bell County Jail Roster was murder.
