A man accused of firing a shotgun targeting occupants of a room at the Delta Inn in Bellmead early Thursday morning has been arrested at his home in Lacy Lakeview after a standoff.
Michael Andrew Sowder was booked into the McLennan County Jail on three counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Bellmead police report the 48-year-old Sowder had actually gone to the Delta Inn in the 1300 block of Behrens Circle looking for his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend, swinging a machete and trying to force his way into the motel room.
His 33-year-old ex-girlfriend who had moved to the motel after breaking up with Sowder received minor injuries and the motel room door was damaged.
Sowder was accused of coming back about 3:00 a.m. Thursday with witnesses telling police they had seen him in the parking lot.
The ex and her new boyfriend hid in the back of the motel room as two shots were fired and Sowder is alleged to have made threatening gestures toward them.
No one was hurt and there was no damage from the shots to the structure.
Arrest warrants were obtained for Sowder and police determined that he was at a home in the 100 block of Pecan Street in Lacy Lakeview.
Bellmead police with assistance from Lacy Lakeview, the US Marshal’s Servie and the McLennan County SWAT team and tried several times to get him to come out.
The SWAT team then deployed CS civil disturbance gas inside and he came out a short time later.
He was not injured but was medically checked out at the scene before being taken to the McLennan County Jail.
