Man dies in two-vehicle crash

MILANO, Texas - One man is dead after a two-vehicle crash in the City of Milano.

The crash occurred on US-79, near SH-36, on early Monday morning. Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers responded to the scene. 

A 2005 GMC pickup towing a flatbed trailer was traveling westbound, while a 2017 Kenworth truck-tractor semi-trailer was traveling east bound. The semi-trailer was in the center turn lane preparing to make a left-hand turn into a business parking lot. 

The GMC drifted off the roadway to its right and overcorrected back to its left. The vehicle struck the driver's side of the semi-trailer. 

The driver of the GMC has been identified as 36-year-old Douglas Brooks of Needham, Alabama, who was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi-trailer has been identified as 46-year-old Phillip Matchett, of Cameron, who was not injured. 

The next of kin have been notified.
