Man found carrying gun in Temple hospital

TEMPLE, TX - A 30-year-old Waco man is being held in the Bell County Jail on multiple charges after being spotted walking around with a handgun in his waistband at Baylor Scott & White Hospital in Temple.

Matthew Rios could be charged with carrying a firearm in a prohibited place since the hospital does have signs saying weapons are now allowed.

Temple Police spokesperson Shawana Neely also noted there could be charges of possession of a stolen firearm since it was later determined the weapon had been reported stolen out of Bosque County.

Neely said the call had come in Tuesday evening after security had seen the man and had approached him, pointing out that weapons were prohibited in the building.

The man complied by going outside and sitting in his car.

Security did determine that the man did not have  a concealed carry permit.

When police arrived, they found the man in his car and found that he had placed the weapon in the car's glove box.

Police also recovered a loaded magazine for the weapon under the seat.

Officers recovered a Kahn .45 caliber handgun and at that time determined by computer check that the weapon was stolen and took Rios into custody.
