TEMPLE, Texas - A young man is arrested after a Temple officer finds a stolen firearm inside his vehicle.
On Tuesday, an officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Mercedes in the 2100 block of SW H K Dodgen Loop, for a wide right turn when turning onto the loop from S 39th Street.
The officer approached the driver and front seat passenger, identified as 20-year-old Matthew Terpening. While speaking to Terpening, the officer saw a firearm in the passenger door panel in plain view.
The firearm was within reach of Terpening, and in his immediate area of control. Terpening admitted the firearm was real and it belonged to him. Terpening also admitted to not knowing if the firearm was stolen.
The officer checked the firearm for stolen, and it returned stolen out of Temple. The firearm was a black Sig Sauer P320, 9mm containing a magazine with four 9mm rounds.
Terpening was arrested and transported to the Bell County Sheriff's Office.
