College Station police report one man was seriously injured and a major intersection was closed two hours when a motorcycle and car collided Wednesday night.

Police say it happened just before 9:00 p.m. Wednesday at the intersection of Wellborn Road and Holleman Drive South.

Investigators determined that a 2013 Chevrolet Malibu was stopped on Wellborn Road in the left turn lane heading north, waiting to turn left onto Holleman and the motorcycle was in the inside lane of Wellborn Road going south.

The light for straight through traffic turned green, with the Malibu made his left turn even though the left turn light was red.

The motorcycle struck the Malibu on the passenger side rear door.

The driver of the Malibu was not injured but the motorcycle operator was taken to the hospital with what were described as “incapacitating injuries.”

The driver of the Malibu was cited for disregarding the red light in the left turn lane.
