The Associated Press named Baylor women’s basketball head coach Kim Mulkey National Coach of the Year Thursday afternoon.
This is the second time Mulkey has earned this honor.
Right now, Mulkey and the Lady Bears are in Tampa, preparing to take on the Oregon Ducks Friday in the NCAA Final Four.
This is their first appearance in the Final Four since 2012. That was also the year the Associated Press previously named Mulkey Coach of the Year.
According to Baylor’s press office, Mulkey has attained 574 career victories and ranks second among the winningest active Division I head coaches in winning percentage (.853).
The Lady Bears are 574-99 since her arrival in Waco for the 2000-01 season. She’s compiled 20 Big 12 Championships, 18 NCAA Tournament appearances (16-straight) and four appearances in the NCAA Final Four with the Lady Bears.
FOX44 Sports Director Matt Roberts is in Tampa and will have live reports during every newscast from the Final Four. At 9:30 on Thursday, FOX44 will bring you “Chasing A Championship,” a 30-minute special looking back on the amazing season of the Lady Bears.
