Parade for Lady Bears Basketball team planned for Thursday

Local

Coach Kim Mulkey tells FOX44 News the City of Waco and Baylor University plan to hold a parade for the Lady Bears basketball team on Thursday, April 18th, at 6pm.

The parade will travel down Austin Avenue from 11th Street to 3rd Street.

Following the parade, a championship ceremony will take place in front of City Hall at 300 Austin Ave. The ceremony will include a proclamation from the City of Waco, along with speeches from the Lady Bears, Baylor University and local officials.

The Waco community is encouraged to line the streets and attend the ceremony as a way to show support for the championship team. The City of Waco hosted similar downtown parades in 2005 and 2012, following the Lady Bears previous championship campaigns.

Baylor University held a welcome home rally for the NCAA Champion Lady Bears on Monday, April 15th, at the Ferrell Center.

The Lady Bears beat Notre Dame 82-81 in a game that started out as a runaway, but turned into a nail biter when Forward Lauren Cox was injured.
