Student indicted for gun at school

An 18-year-old Temple High School student has been indicted by a Bell County Grand Jury , accused of taking a firearm to school on October 2.

James Luther Godfrey has remained in the Bell County Jail under $150,000 bond since being picked up by Temple police.

A Temple Police Department School Resource Officer had been made aware that a student possibly had a firearm that Tuesday who then worked with school staff to identify Godfrey as possibly being the one with the weapon.

The officer then conducted a search of the student and recovered the handgun.

Law enforcement and school administrators had praise for students, staff and officers for their quick reporting of the weapon being on campus and action taken to recover it.
