Suspect in bus driver death returned to Bell County

BELTON, TX - A 64-year-old Florida woman has been brought back to Texas to face charges in connection with the 2014 murder of a Killeen ISD special education bus driver.

Jo Ann Wilbert had been named in an indictment charging Capital Murder for Remuneration and Solicitation for Capital Murder for her part in the death of Christine Dailey Watkins.

Watkins had been found shot to death in her driveway in the 1400 block of Pine Drive in Killeen October 20, 2014.

Police had gone to the area after receiving reports of shots being heard fired.

Killeen detectives had been working with Brevard County Sheriff’s Detectives, and traveled to Merritt Island, Florida.

Both agencies took Wilbert into custody without incident.

She was formally booked into the Bell County jail at 12:15 a.m. Thursday with bond set at a million dollars.

She was the second person arrested in the case.

Police had previously arrested a 32-year-old homeless man, Andrew Lenard Hardesty.

He has remained in the Bell County Jail since October 2015 on bond totaling $ 1,045,000 on the murder charges plus some other charges including two counts of assault and a motion to revoke previous probation.
