Suspected car burglary ring busted

WACO, TX - Waco police report taking a total of five adults and one juvenile into custody early Monday morning after responding to a report of a car burglary in progress at the Highland Apartments in the 1600 block of Lake Shore Drive.

Police got the call at 12:40 a.m. from a witness who saw several people breaking into a car.

Police found that numerous vehicles had been broken into at the complex.

Police also said that the suspects were caught in a vehicle that had been reported stolen earlier in the 2200 block of Bosque Boulevard.

The victim in the car theft told officers she had left the vehicle running and unoccupied when it was taken about 10:30 p.m. Sunday.

Crime scene technicians assisted with the collection of evidence and stolen property and the stolen vehicle was returned to its owner.

Monday morning police were trying to contact several car owners who may not even have known that their vehicles had been broken into yet.

The five adults who were arrested included 17-year-old Dayveon Marquis Rougely, 19-year-old Anthony Smith, 20-year-old Tevin Jamal Horn, 17-year-old Kelvin Watkins III and 17-year-old Jamarion Quientay Atkins.

The name of the juvenile was not released.
