Temple police stopped an attempted burglary of a business early Wednesday morning and picked up an Austin man, but three others managed to get away.

Twenty-five-year-old Bobby Rodriguez, Jr, whose jail records lists an Austin address, was booked into the Bell County Jail at 5:43 a.m. Wednesday.

Police were called to the W.C. Tractor Company at 3509 North 3rd street on a report of a burglary in progress.

They were told in the call that four men had cut a hole in the fence and had entered one of the buildings.

Officers arrived on the scene and had planned to set up a perimeter before trying to make contact, but an officer saw the dome light come on in a suspect’s truck as if they were getting ready to leave and the decision was made to move in.

The suspects fled into a dense wooded area, but Rodriguez was caught.

A K-9 was brought in and tracking was started, but it led to no results

The suspect’s vehicle is a red 2001 GMC Sierra.

The property taken was a heavy duty lawn mower with an estimated value of $4000, with an additional $300 damage done to the fence.

Rodriguez was taken to the Bell County Jail.
