Temple traffic stop yields drugs, guns

A 21-year-old Temple man faces multiple charges after a routine traffic stop led to the discovery of drugs and weapons Wednesday night.

Temple Police Department spokesman Cody Weems said the stop was made at 9:17 p.m. near South First Street and West Avenue G.

The officer reported smelling marijuana as he approached the car and asked the passenger to step out of the vehicle.

A search described as conducted under probable cause lead to the discovery of two hand guns on the person of the man, later identified as Tavaras Shawn Jones.

Police searched a backpack in his possession and recovered marijuana, Xanax and Ecstacy.

Jones was arrested on charges of possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and unlawfully carrying a weapon.

He was booked into the Bell County Jail.

Bond had not been set Thursday morning.
