UPDATE: Temple PD investigate suspicious object

Area has been evacuated

TEMPLE, Texas - UPDATE: The manager of the Cricket Wireless Store, located on south 31st street in Temple,
did not want to be on camera and gave FOX44 News all the photos she gave police.

"So the neighbor came - the guy from next door and he asked whose it was," says Cricket Wireless Manager Christina. "I explained to him that I didn't know, so he suggested that we call Temple PD."

Pictures from the store's surveillance cameras show a man dropping off a mini-fridge in front of this store.

The Cricket store owner came in on Wednesday morning and saw the refrigerator sitting right there. She thought it belonged to a customer, but when that customer left and the refrigerator remained, she knew something was off.

"Because he came on a bicycle, and I thought 'Why would he want to hide it and then pull off?,'" said Christina.

Temple PD got a report of a suspicious package around 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday morning and
evacuated the surroundings as a precaution. A two-block radius was blocked off, and three local schools in the area were placed on a soft lockdown.

"We had McLennan County EOD come out and Fort Hood EOD come out just to check it out," says Shawana Neely, of Temple Police.

Police say the bomb squad found nothing after they went in.

"We don't believe it was any kind of malice," Neely said.

The homeowner who lives in the home right next to where the appliance was found says he is glad they evacuated the area.

"I ask them, 'Is it something that I need to be aware of? Do I need to leave?' And they are like, 'Yes, you need to leave right now,'" says homeowner Jerome Woods.

The soft lockdown was lifted around 3:00 p.m. Police are continuing to investigate who this man is and why he left the fridge there.
