Waco man, house, car hit by gunfire

WACO, TX - As Waco police were investigating an apparent shooting in east Waco Monday night, the victim turned up at a local hospital with multiple gunshot wounds.

Police were called about a possible shooting about 8:30 p.m. in the area of King's Highway and Dawson streets.

When they got there, they found at least one vehicle had bullet holes in it and that at least one house was hit by gunfire.

They also found several handgun shell casings and shotgun shells at the scene, along with a large amount of blood, but no victim.

It was later determined that the victim, 36-year-old Joseph Lamont Dawson, had been taken to Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Hospital by private car.

The victim was being treated for wounds to his hand, arm, side, buttocks and legs, but with none of the wounds life threatening.

When police interviewed him at the hospital, he provided little detail about what had happened to him.

Police reported Tuesday morning that no arrests had been made and that the investigation is ongoing.
