Waco woman and former Beto O'Rourke campaign worker speaks on presidential run announcement

WACO, Texas - Sources have told FOX44 that Former Congressman Beto O'Rourke will officially announce his run for president in 2020 on Thursday.

The congressman sent the following text on Thursday evening to reporters at our sister station KTSM in El Paso:

FOX44 spoke with a Waco woman, Diana Earl, who worked with O'Rourke during his Senate campaign. Earl is featured in a documentary with the now-presidential hopeful about their work to help end gun violence after her son was killed in Austin in 2016.

When FOX44 broke the news of O'Rourke's confirmation to Earl over the phone, this is what she had to say:

"Surprised! I'm excited! Definitely surprised! And I was trying not to cry because I didn't want to mess my lashes up! And he knows that!"

O'Rourke will be making a series of stops in Iowa on Thursday. He is scheduled to participate in a Get Out the Vote event for Eric Giddens, who is running against Republican Walt Rogers for the State Senate Special Election.

O'Rourke is not the only presidential hopeful bringing his star power to campaign for Giddens. A Minnesota senator and Cory Booker, of New Jersey, are also slated to knock on doors for Giddens this weekend.
