Woman charged with firefighter injury

Local

A 29-year-old woman has been arrested on a charge of intoxication assault after a Rockdale firefighter was seriously injured when his vehicle was struck by another Friday night.

Candace Cantrell was arrested by Rockdale police following the crash and booked into the Milam County jail.

She has since posted $20,000 bond and has been released.

Police say she was the driver of a vehicle that struck the vehicle occupied by Rockdale Volunteer Fire Department Lieutenant John Villareal.

He had been backing into his driveway after leaving the fire station.

Other firefighters had to work to extricate him from the wreck and he was transported to Seton Hospital in Williamson County.
