One man was booked into the Burleson County jail on multiple charges following an incident in which a DPS trooper fired shots as a car moved toward an officer.
DPS spokesman Jimmy Morgan says the shots disabled a domestic assault suspect’s vehicle as it was backed toward a Somerville Police officer.
Morgan says the preliminary information indicated DPS troopers were assisting the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office around 11:30 p.m. Friday with the original domestic disturbance call.
During the investigation, the suspect fled from the scene, later driving into a ditch on State Highway 36.
The DPS report says the suspect continued to evade and backed towards the Somerville officer who was standing outside his patrol car,
At that point, the DPS trooper fired to stop the vehicle and the suspect was taken into custody.
That suspect has since been identified as 36-year-old Richard Laredo, Jr of Somerville who was arrested with out further incident.
He was being charged with felony evading arrest, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and interference with an emergency call.
No injuries were reported.
The criminal case remains under investigation by the Burleson County Sheriff’s Office.
