Aggies Hold Off Late LSU Charge to Even Series

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – The No. 11 Texas A&M Aggies evened the series at No. 12 LSU with a 6-4 victory over the Tigers in the lid lifter of Saturday’s twin bill at Alex Box Stadium.

LSU had the tying run at second base with no outs, but closer Kasey Kalich logged two strikeouts and Zach DeLoach tracked down a deep fly ball near the track in centerfield to close out the win.

The Aggies built a 6-0 advantage going to the bottom of the eighth. LSU trimmed three runs off in the lead in the eighth and added another in the ninth before Kalich buckled down to finish off the Tigers.

Asa Lacy (6-0) put in another yeoman’s effort, scattering one hit and four walks while striking out 11 in a scoreless 6.0 innings. It marked his third consecutive double-digit strikeout performance and his fifth of the season. Lacy lowered his ERA to 1.29 and his opponent batting average to .141. Kalich picked up his eighth save of the season, yielding one run on four hits while striking out four in 1.2 innings.

Cam Blake paced the Aggie offense, going 2-for-3 with one double, one walk, one sac bunt and three RBI. Mikey Hoehner batted 2-for-4 with one double and one run.

Texas A&M improved to 25-7-1 overall and 7-3-1 in the SEC while LSU moved to 22-10 overall and 7-4 in league action.
