The Baylor Lady Bears will face Texas Tech to Open their Big 12 Tournament in Oklahoma City on Saturday, after the Red Raiders beat Oklahoma on Friday night.
Baylor will be facing a Tech team that is playing for their season, and while the Lady Bears don’t have much more to prove, if they are throwing the ball up, they want to win.
“Proving to everyone would definitely be a goal, but I feel like proving it to ourselves and to this program you know is to go and win the tournament like you’re supposed to,” Sophomore Didi Richards said. “Like Mulkey always says she’s never had a team that lost a game that they weren’t supposed to win, so we don’t want to be that team that does that, for sure.”
The Lady Bears will likely see a more physical brand of basketball in the postseason, which is something they are used to, at this point. Head Coach Kim Mulkey knows it’s probably coming, but just wants it to be within the rules of the game.
“Well I hope it doesn’t, I hope they call it the way it’s been called all year,” Mulkey said. “I know you’re referring to the last game and it was very physical. We’ve had some of those in post season before and it’s just, you have to adjust and at the same time because of our size inside, those players need to be treated the way other players are, let them go where they need to go and don’t impede their progress.”
Should the Lady Bears win their 10th Big 12 Tournament Title that would tie them for the 6th most conference tournament titles in NCAA women’s basketball history.
