Baylor Softball Falls in Series Opener at Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. – Baylor (14-16, 1-4) took an early lead at Kansas before the Jayhawks rallied to top the Lady Bears, 9-8.

BU got off to a strong start, scoring six runs off three hits against KU’s starter, Brynn Minor. The Lady Bears scored three runs in the first inning before plating four more an inning later. Three of those four runs in the second came off the bat of Kassidy Krupit when she launched her seventh home run of the year over the right field wall.

Krupit’s home run came off Lexy Mills who came on in relief for Minor. Between the two of them, Baylor was walked 11 times in three innings. Overall, the Lady Bears finished the game with 12 walks which tied the program record.

Hannah Todd came in and pitched the final four innings of the game for the Jayhawks and gave up only one hit.


  • Nicky Dawson has reached base safely in every game she’s played this season, making her 29-game streak a career high. Her streak also ranks fourth in program history – Kaitlyn Thumann 44 (2013), Lindsey Cargill 36 (2017), Shelby Friudenberg 33 (2017).
  • Ana Watson recorded her sixth multi-hit game of the year as she finished 2-for-3 with and RBI and a run scored.
  • Kassidy Krupit hit her seventh home run of the season in the top of the second. She finished 2-for-5 at the plate with a run scored and three RBIs. It also marked her seventh career multi-hit game.
