OKLAHOMA CITY – Baylor senior outfielder Jessie Scroggins was named a Top 25 finalist for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year, announced Wednesday afternoon by the organization.
The Lakewood, Calif., native became the sixth Lady Bear in program history to make the cut to the final 25, joining Cristin Vitek (2004), Chelsi Lake (2005), Ashley Monceaux (2007), Whitney Canion (2014), and Lindsey Cargill (2017).
Scroggins is one of just four outfielders to make the finalist ranks and is the only centerfielder in the group.
She is continuing a banner week after being drafted No. 15 overall by the Chicago Bandits in Monday night’s NPF College Draft, giving Scroggins the opportunity to continue playing ball professionally after her senior season’s conclusion.
With a .456 average and 67 hits on the year, she ranks ninth in the country in average and seventh in hits, already holding the program records for career hits and multi-hit games.
