The Baylor football team opened spring practice on Wednesday at 6:00am, signaling the start of Matt Rhule’s 3rd Spring as Baylor’s Head Coach.
One area of focus for the Baylor offense will be the sacks. Baylor allowed a Big 12 worst, three sacks per game last year. Senior Sam Tecklenburg said this offensive line will be better next year.
“We’re working on pass pro [protection] when we’re starting practice so it’s a big emphasis,” he said “We’re changing a few things that we do, basically we’ve got to get better. We were horrible last year, we were not good enough. That’s not the standard. I don;t want to leave this O-Line going into my last year as an average or below average group. I want it to be an elite group.”
One thing that should help that offensive line is their size. Rhule feels like that beginning his third spring the Bears have the size to match their speed.
“I think now when you walk in and see our squat testing and our bench press testing, we’ve always been very fast, but now we have the size and strength and brawn that our team has, he said.”
The Bears will hold two more practices on Thursday and Saturday to close out week one.
