The Baylor Bears have lost three of their last four games, and it’s no coincidence that Makai Mason and King McClure have not been 100% healthy during that stretch. McClure has been out for the last three games, while Mason has missed two of the last three games. With the absense of Mason, freshman Jared Butler has taken over point guard duties.
“I don’t think it’s a shock when you say King or Makia’s not playing,” Jared Butler said. “I don’t think it’s like, Oh? I think we’re more prepared like they’re not going to play.”
Mason is no stranger to working his way back from an injury, as he missed the majority of two seasons with various injuries at Yale. His latest injury is a bruised toe, and he did not play on Sunday against Texas Tech, marking his fifth missed game this season. However, Mason is very familiar with how his body reacts to injuries, and he knows the difference between being injured and being hurt.
“… he also knows that what something that prevents him from playing and what’s something that’s just painful,” Scott Drew said. “…the good thing is each and every day he gets better.”
Makai Mason and King McClure are both game time decisions for their Tuesday night matchup agaisnt Iowa State.
