The Midway Panthers are in the Area round for the second-straight season in the midst of a nine-game winning streak.
Their last two games of the regular season were District championship games as Temple and Belton each had a chance to knock off the Panthers but neither, were successful in doing so. After a win against Mesquite, this team is ready for their next challenge on Friday.
“I think it shows great perseverance and great character,” Head Coach Jeff Hulme said. “That’s sort of what we talk about every week, in practice, get better today, don’t worry about tomorrow. Whatever you’ve got to do, today in practice in the classroom, whatever, lets take that positive step forward and these guys have done that.”
That next challenge is Garland Sachse on Friday in Mansfield. This will be a battle of two of the hottest teams in the state as Midway comes in with a nine-game winning streak, while Sachse comes in winners of eight-straight.
“They’re pretty good,” Senior Joshua Echeverria, said. “They’re pretty aggressive. I know they’re on a big win streak right now but so are we, so it will be a good game Friday.”
The Panthers will take their ground-based attack led by James Fullbright up against another ground-based attack, this weekend and junior Carson Byrd knows this game will be won-and-lost in the trenches.
“It’s going to be a very physical game,” he said. “They’re a heavy run team, we’re a heavy run team. It’ going to be won in the trenches for sure.”
The Mustangs and Panthers will kick off at 7:00pm Friday in Mansfield.
